Akito from Fruits Basket
Jan. 28th, 2004 08:24 pmIt's hard to believe it, considering what a terrible little snot and evil brat he is in the manga/anime... but for all that he does, I can't help but like him. There's this air around him that thrills me all over and creates fanfics from the air. They plop into my head to get comfortable and then... stay there. -_-
Anyways, I find that I really can't stand Yuki/Kyo fics. They're pretty. And sweet. And um... nice, but I just can't see it. There's too much resentment and hatred to have anything other than a grudging friendship and respect. And considering how their affections are both focused on Tohru... 0_0 evilness in the future! Terrible romantic complications! (This is only for the manga though, since *sigh* the anime has ended)
It might be sympathy. It seems to me, somewhat, that the very existence of the Sohma Clan depends on his suffering. That somehow their wealth, their power, their very essence is directly derived from his frail body and that he suffers his fevers and illness so that the Clan is powerful. It also seems that the thirteen members of the Zodiac are in some way, intricately connected to him, so when he's at his worst, his words nearly physically lance into them.
My theory is incomplete, but for all his hatred and cruelty, Akito seems like a child that isn't able to get what he wants. Perhaps he loaths pity, and pity would be what he receives if he acts the part of a weak, helpless leader who suffers for them. Not love, no, not love. The coldness of the family is not entirely because of Akito's twisted nature; the parents themselves have two extreme ways of accepting that their children are cursed. Either they become extremely protective or they completely reject them. And it makes sense, since that is human nature. *sigh*
Akito will never get what he wants; he will never have a healthy body, freedom to run where he wants, to do what he wants, because he must suffer in order for the others to live.
-_- I don't know if my theory even holds feathers up, but well, there it is. I like Akito. Even if I'm a very, very small minority.
