long and useless

I'd actually like that scenario. I still don't like Akito and the
idea of her being left alone and shattered by abandonment gives me
warm fuzzies.

This is me quoting someone who wondered whether Akito telling the others that she's female would break the straw and thus, have them tell her to "fuck off".

It interests me in three ways:

1. This assumes that since she is female, she is thus unlikeable.

2. Since Akito is female, she 'naturally' loses some of the 'power' she has.

3. Her control over the Juunishi is based around their belief that she is male.

Even in these politically correct days, it's still very easy for people to make comments, or do things that have the underlying assumption that women are, still, on a lower level than men. Women, in the Great Old World of Men, are physically weaker, emotionally weaker, and mentally weaker. The assumption is that women are still the minority in colleges and in the science-based departments. The other end of the assumption is that women are now completely equal and unfortunately, that's so far from the truth it could be in Fiji.

There are still fewer women than men in the computer sciences. Though there are more women than men in the English department as undergrads, the ones teaching the English classes, especially the upper level historical period are still white men. So-called equality has not happened and if there are still assumptions based on gender (or any other factor like sexuality, class, race), it never will.

Hatred of Akito is, in general, widespread. When she was found out to be female, the scorning words took on a decidedly sexist tone. There were jokes about how she's always at that time of the month. How she's suddenly ALWAYS jealous. It's how she wants to keep the Juunishi only at her side. She hates Tohru because she's jealous. She hates Rin because she's jealous. It's she, she, she, she, she, she. Those who hate Akito are using her gender to vindicate their dislike instead of her actions and the curse
